FAQ'S

Are there any side effects?

The area treated is frozen by cryotherapy. This kills the localised cells in the area which cause them to shrivel and die. The treated area may go darker over a few weeks, but will return to normal pigmented skin in about 6 weeks.

How long are CryoPenTM treatments?

The duration of the treatment time will depend on the surface area and the thickness of the tissue being treated. Upon the clinical evaluation of the depth of the area, the clinician will choose an application time from 1 to 30 seconds.

How much will the treatment cost?

The cost of treatment will depend on the size of the area. Make an appointment with Feel The Heal to discuss costs and to assess your area.

How safe is cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy is a relatively low-risk procedure. CryopenTM delivers N20 directly to the area, and not the healthy surrounding tissue. CryoPenTM is both CE and FDA registered.

Is the treatment painful?

There will be a pain sensation similar to a stinging nettle on the skin when the nitrous oxide reaches the bottom of the area. There might be a little residual stinging for a few minutes after treatment.

WHAT IS CRYOTHERAPY AND WHAT DOES IT TREAT? HOW IT WORKS

The applicator is held as close as possible to the skin imperfection and moved quickly towards and away from it. This could be from 1-30 seconds, depending on the size and depth. • Removes unsightly skin tags, warts and age spots for that perfect fi nish • Minimally invasive CryoPenTM is an advanced cryotherapy innovation that is a fast, effective, safe and new solution for removal of skin imperfections. Procedures typically last from 5 to 30 seconds, so you can be in and out of the salon quickly. The CryoPenTM emits a fi ne jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which allows the clinician to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fl uid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical. Cosmetic procedures such as skin tags, milia and cherry angiomas are no longer being treated by many doctors on the NHS. With the CryoPen™ you can now have these treatments in the beauty salon.

AFTERCARE

Thank you for trusting us with your treatment. Please follow these guidelines carefully to support healing and get the best possible results.

What to Expect

Cryotherapy works by freezing targeted skin tissue. Because of this, the treated area may react like a mild burn:

  • Redness, swelling, or blistering (clear or blood-filled fluid is harmless)

  • A scab will form within a few days and usually falls off in 2–4 weeks (healing may take longer on the legs)

  • Skin may appear pink, lighter, or darker before returning closer to your natural tone over weeks to months

  • On darker skin tones, redness may be less visible, but pigment changes are still possible

How to Care for the Area

  • First 24 hours: Keep the area clean and dry.

  • After 24 hours: Wash gently with mild soap and lukewarm water, then pat dry.

  • Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor, Neosporin, or ointment daily to keep the area moist. Dry healing with silicone tape is also an option.

  • Protect: Do not scratch, pick, or pop blisters. This may cause scarring.

  • Cover if needed: We’ll send you home with silicone tape (also available on Amazon). Use it if the area rubs against clothing or is at risk of trauma.

Possible Side Effects

  • Mild and common: Redness, swelling, tenderness, blisters, itching, or oozing clear fluid.

  • Less common: Pigment changes (lighter or darker), scarring, or recurrence of the lesion.

  • Rare: Infection (look for spreading redness, pus, or increasing pain) or numbness if a nerve was affected.

If infection occurs, contact us or your healthcare provider right away.

Healing Timeline

  • Days 1–3: Redness, swelling, tenderness, possible blistering.

  • Days 4–10: Scab forms; keep area clean and moisturized.

  • Weeks 2–4: Scab falls off naturally; new pink skin appears.

  • Months 1–3: Color gradually blends in.

Specific Lesions

  • Skin Tags: Darken, dry out, and fall off in 1–6 weeks (larger ones may need a second treatment).

  • Milia: Usually flatten and disappear after one treatment.

  • Pigmentation or Pigmented Moles: Area darkens, crusts, and heals lighter; use SPF 50 daily to prevent darkening.

  • Cherry Angiomas: Red and raised initially, then shrink and fade over 2–4 weeks.

  • Warts/Verrucae: May require multiple treatments; black spots mean the tissue is dying.

  • Keratosis: Crusts, darkens, and heals lighter; sun protection is essential.
