Q & A'S ON PEELS
What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that can be applied to the face, hands, and neck. They’re used to improve the appearance or feel of the skin. During this procedure, chemical solutions will be applied to the area being treated, which causes the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. Once this happens, the new skin underneath is often smoother, appears less wrinkled, and may have less damage.
There are a number of reasons people may get chemical peels. They may be trying to treat a variety of things, including:
-
wrinkles and fine lines
-
sun damage
-
acne scars
-
hyperpigmentation
-
scars
-
Melasma
-
uneven skin tone or redness

Walk Me Through The Chemical Peel Process

The Esthetician will pre cleanse your face and use a special towel to remove dirt and oil from the skin. They will then apply the peel of choice to your face. The peel will be left on the skin for 4 hours and the Esthetician will send you home with a take home kit that has all the products you need to help you through the following days.

How Many Times A Year Can A Person Have A Vi Peel Done?

If a series is recommended, the VI Peel is suitable to receive every 4-6 weeks as directed by your Practitioner.Depending on the reason for your peel a series of 3-6 are usually recommended . Your Practitioner will be able to create your own unique skincare plan for your skincare needs. You can also have the VI Peels quarterly/seasonally and receive four (4) peels a year for the maintenance of healthy skin.

Can I Peel The Skin That Is Hanging During The Peeling Process?

No. NEVER PULL BACK on the skin that is shedding. It is recommended to use a small cuticle scissor to trim the exfoliating skin. You can also go and wash the face to help gently remove the hanging skin. If washing the face multiple times a day, be sure to add moisture back to the skin by applying the Post Peel Protectant or coconut oil. You also MUST use the VI Derm SPF 50+ to protect the skin during and after the exfoliation process.

What can’t I do before a peel

Before a chemical peel, you must:
-
not use any type of retinol or retin-A topical medication for at least 48 hours
-
inform your skin care specialist about any medications you take
-
not have been on Accutane for at least six months

What are the risks and possible side effects of a chemical peel?

Common side effects are temporary, and include redness, dryness, stinging or burning, and slight swelling.

What to expect after

Recovery time varies depending on which chemical peel you received.

Do Not: Pick, Pull, or Scratch
As your skin begins to peel, it is tempting to pick or pull on any loose or peeling skin. Resist! Touching, picking, or pulling on the peeling skin interrupts your skin’s natural healing cycle. What’s more, you are likely to interfere with the results, increase your chance of infection, and may even cause permanent hyperpigmentation.

Do: Hydrate in Moderation
As the chemicals start to work, it is only natural that your skin may feel tight, dry, and itchy. This makes it tempting to over hydrate. Don’t! Remember, the whole point of a chemical peel is to let the dull, damaged, and dead skin cells flake and peel away. In order to get the full benefits of a chemical peel, you need to let this process happen in its own time. Please trust the process and give it its full healing time by following all given instructions for the very best results and peel outcome.
